Physics Circus with Demonstrations

We have been studying variables in science, controlling different variables in bouncing balls and swinging pendulums.  As part of our experiments we hung and old twelve-pound bowling ball from Russ and Dana K. from a second story window at Susan Lindgren.  We've found out that release angle and pendulum mass do not effect the swing rate, but the pendulum arm lenght does. The bowling ball swings at a rate of 2.6 cycles in 15 seconds, our 200 centimeter pendulums swing at a rate of 5 cycles in 15 seconds, and a 10 centimeter pendulums swings at a rate of 24 cycles in 15 seconds.  See the bowling ball pendulum movies below.
