October 2, 2009 Dear Parents, I enjoyed seeing you at Open House and sharing with you our classroom goals, curriculum, and your child’s work. Monday we will be starting our Book In A Bag program. In the beginning your child will bring home a book that they have chosen. Once I have completed an assessment of the children's reading ability and levels, the book will be chosen to practice reading at their individual level. Now that it is October the uniform policy has changed. P.E. shorts may no longer be worn. Boys must be in their dress shirt and tie. Girls may wear blue pants as part of their dress uniform. We will continue to go outside for recess. Please have your child wear a jacket on the colder days. The girls may want to bring in a pair of leggings or sweatpants to put on under their dress. Everyone is invited to join us at the Liberty Ridge Farm on October 16th. I have the seven chaperones signed up for the allotted tickets we ordered. If you are planning on coming you will be able to purchase your ticket for $8.00 at the farm. If you wish to have your child ride with you, rather than take the bus, that is fine, but please let me know as the day approaches. The same holds true for any parents wishing to take their child home directly from Liberty Ridge, please let me know. Thank you. You may use photos, markers, color pencils etc. when filling out the All About Me page that your child brought home Wednesday. Please return upon completion. I will then put the pages together to create a book. This week we celebrated the feast days of the Archangels, St. Theresa, and the Guardian Angels. Today I gave each child a Guardian Angel prayer card. Next week we will learn about St. Francis, and the feast of the Holy Rosary. I am proud of the children's behavior at Eucharist Adoration. Next Friday October 9th, is a Half Day due to the faculty meeting. And school is Closed for Columbus Day Monday October 12th. I hope you and your child are enjoying the first few weeks of school as much as I am! First Grade is a wonderful adventure; your energy and enthusiasm will help us all continue to make the most of this adventure. Thank you. Happy October, Mrs. Jones
