November 8, 2009
Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, the weather was spectacular-good for raking leaves and jumping into the pile!
Last week in class we began our family theme. We read The Family Book, What Mommies Do Best and What Daddies do best in Pre-K 2 and Pre-K 3, and we read the Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale in Pre-K 1. In all three classes we worked on the sound of /f/; we wrote Ff in Pre-K 2 and Pre-K 3. We have been doing a lot of cutting in our classes. Cutting is very difficult and frustrating for children. If you have opportunities at home to allow your child to cut it would be beneficial, let your child clip coupons or just let him or her cut on dotted lines that you have made on paper.
This week we will be continuing working on Family. I will be sending home a Family Shield for you to decorate with your child, it will be due back to me November 19th or November 20th. We will be working on the letter Cc and completing some fun projects with corn and Cornucopias.
IMPORTANT:
Pre-K 1 and Pre-K 3 WILL have class on NOVEMBER 19TH! The rest of the school will not be in session because of Parent/Teacher conferences. I will be having Parent/Teacher conferences on February 26th.
My continued thanks to everyone for their patience while we are in our temporary classroom. We have been told that we should be in our classroom in November; until this time, if possible, could you send in juice boxes rather than bottles and cups.
Please remember to assist your child with his/her book for Book In The Bag. We will continue to exchange books on Monday for Pre-K 2 and Pre-K 3 and Tuesday for Pre-K 1. If you have any questions/requests, please drop me a note. If the children are interested in doing "homework", I would suggest that after reading the book they can write or draw their favorite part of the story; they could also change the ending of the story; write or draw a book report which includes the name of the author and illustrator, and a summary of the story. I will gladly look over the homework and give each child a sticker for his/her great work!
St. Pius is having a food drive to benefit the Sacred Heart Pantry in Albany. This pantry has been seeing many more people during the recession, and assists in providing the Thanksgiving dinner put on by Equinox. The children will be learning about giving to others who are in need; and, this food drive is a great way for all of us to teach and learn a lesson; please send in a can or two.
The Library will be having its annual Scholastic Book Fair during the week of November 16th-November 20th. Please watch for book fliers in your child's folder. You may visit the library during the school day to look over books; or, place an order in your child's folder and I will send it to the library to be filled. I will not be doing book orders during November. I will send home Scholastic book order forms in the beginning of December in time for Christmas-books make great Christmas presents!
