                                                                                       November 8, 2009

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, the weather was spectacular-good for raking leaves and jumping into the pile!

Last week in class we began our family theme.  We read The Family Book, What Mommies Do Best and What Daddies do best in Pre-K 2 and Pre-K 3, and we read the Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale in Pre-K 1.  In all three classes we worked on the sound of /f/; we wrote Ff in Pre-K 2 and Pre-K 3.  We have been doing a lot of cutting in our classes. Cutting is very difficult and frustrating for children.  If you have opportunities at home to allow your child to cut it would be beneficial, let your child clip coupons or just let him or her cut on dotted lines that you have made on paper.

This week we will be continuing working on Family.  I will be sending home a Family Shield for you to decorate with your child, it will be due back to me November 19th or November 20th.  We will be working on the letter Cc and completing some fun projects with corn and Cornucopias.

IMPORTANT:

Pre-K 1 and Pre-K 3 WILL have class on NOVEMBER 19TH!  The rest of the school will not be in session because of Parent/Teacher conferences.  I will be having Parent/Teacher conferences on February 26th.

My continued thanks to everyone for their patience while we are in our temporary classroom.  We have been told that we should be in our classroom in November; until this time, if possible, could you send in juice boxes rather than bottles and cups.

Please remember to assist your child with his/her book for Book In The Bag.  We will continue to exchange books on Monday for Pre-K 2 and Pre-K 3 and Tuesday for Pre-K 1.  If you have any questions/requests, please drop me a note.  If the children are interested in doing "homework", I would suggest that after reading the book they can write or draw their favorite part of the story; they could also change the ending of the story; write or draw a book report which includes the name of the author and illustrator, and a summary of the story.  I will gladly look over the homework and give each child a sticker for his/her great work!

St. Pius is having a food drive to benefit the Sacred Heart Pantry in Albany.  This pantry has been seeing many more people during the recession, and assists in providing the Thanksgiving dinner put on by Equinox.  The children will be learning about giving to others who are in need; and, this food drive is a great way for all of us to teach and learn a lesson; please send in a can or two.

The Library will be having its annual Scholastic Book Fair during the week of November 16th-November 20th.  Please watch for book fliers in your child's folder.  You may visit the library during the school day to look over books; or, place an order in your child's folder and I will send it to the library to be filled.  I will not be doing book orders during November.  I will send home Scholastic book order forms in the beginning of December in time for Christmas-books make great Christmas presents!

REMINDERS

No school Wednesday, November 11th-Veterans Day.

Pre-K 3 will have its Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 10th at 6:30 PM in the Parish Center.

While we are in our temporary classroom, please try to take your child to the bathroom before class begins.  We will take the children when they ask or we will ask them if we notice anything unusual in their behavior.  However, this does take away from class time when there are 5 or 6 children who need to use the bathroom at one time.

The weather is getting cooler so please make sure your child will be warm enough when we go outside.  We will go out as often as possible depending on the weather.

Please make sure that your child has a folder and backpack for class each day.  Usually there is something that needs to go home from the office and/or class.  The folder is an easy way of keeping track of papers.  Also, please go through your child's folder each night.  I have sent home emergency phone chains and some other important information that you should keep near your phone.

Please label your child's folder, backpack and clothing.  We are trying to contain everything in the playroom, but we make mistakes.  Labeling clothing will be very helpful especially since all the sweatshirts look alike.

I am working on the web site book list.  Right now there is only one book listed, but I will be adding books to it throughout the year.  Thank you all for checking on the website, any feedback you have would be appreciated!

Please continue to check the calendar on this website for updated information.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, and feel free to contact me with any questions!
