Mentoring that Matters: A practical Approach to learning-Focused Relationships

If you would like to apply to be a mentor, please see your supervisor!

 Mentoring Objectives:

  • Develop learning-focused relationships (committment, intentionality and a focus on teaching and learning)

  • Remember what it was like to be a new teacher

  • Respect and uphold lines of communication

  • Understand the three key functins of being a mentor (support, create challenge and faciltate a professional vision)

  • Appreciate and develop flexibility in using different stances based on protégé’s needs (consult, coach and collaborate)

  • Consciously use effective communication skills (active listening, paraphrasing and mediative questioning)

  • Visit the proteges classroom and serve as a reflective practitioner role model

  • Assess your needs as  a mentor and recharge as necessary
