NYS Mandated Screening

New York State mandates that children be screened for vision, hearing, and scoliosis depending on their grade. Our state also mandates that parents submit a health appraisal on children in kindergarten, second grade, fourth grade and any newly entering children. The screenings and health appraisals are as followed: Kindergarten: vision, hearing and health appraisals required First grade: vision and hearing Second grade: vision and health appraisals required Third grade: vision and hearing Fourth grade: health appraisals required Fifth grade: vision and hearing Newly entering students: vision near and distance, color perception, hyperopia, hearing and health appraisals required Letters will be sent home to the parents of any student who fails the mandated screening.
