Here are some things you might hear from your child when he or she is talking about our classroom:
Classroom Manangement Our Classroom Rules 1. Come in quietly and get started on your assignment. 2. Do not disturb others. 3. Keep all four(4) legs of the chair on the floor. 4. Treat your computer with care. 5. Do NOT touch the computer screens or buttons. 6. Always work hard to do your best!
Rewards Reward Bananas Each class as a whole can earn a banana (for our No Monkey Business behavior board) each time they are in CCC Lab class. This is a classroom management system based upon positive reinforcement. The students can earn bananas for their behavior or social accomplishments each day. Once the class has earned 8 bananas, they will receive a Fun Free Day of classroom time. This could be Kid Pix 4, or Math Speed Games, or an approved internet site .
Grading You will not see a computer grade on the report card for computer lab. The reason is two-fold. -
This lab exist to augment the classroom curriculum in math and reading. It is an electronic workbook of sorts and gives each student the opportunity to move along at his/her own pace and level. The computer also gives immediate feedback. -
We encourage the students to work independently and take some chances by using the "educated guess" method. Using their skill and memory banks, the students can make deductions in finding answers. -
We also encourage students to be problem solvers with their computers, using different strategies to fix simple problems. -
Finally, it is important to recognize that even though we are trying to create independent thinkers and problem solvers, we encourage students to ask for help after they have tried something and are still having trouble. | Children should always be supervised when using the internet.
