English Language Skills

Practice spelling words on SpellingCity.com (choose your list from the menu)

Read Monkey Blood Murder, an orginal mystery by Mrs. Shaw and Dr. Schweig's ELS class (all of the week's spelling words are included!)

What is ELS?
ELA Skills (ELS) helps build a solid foundation in the English Language Arts.

Reading and Writing skills, + important connections with other content area skills = success in middle school.

The program is designed to help fill in student’s gaps in understanding and strengthen their performance on important state assessments.

ELA skills will focus on strengthening students':

Vocabulary
Spelling
Grammar
Study Skills
Writing Skills

This year the ELS program is being taught by all core teachers. This will allow teachers the ability to connect the ELS program to the core curriculum in English, science, math, and social studies.

In addition, this class will assist students in:

writing better Data Based Questions or DBQ’s for Social Studies
provide time for students to draft, edit, and finalize longer ELA writing pieces
improve study habits for preparing for tests
improve organizational skills
work on time management and planning skills
