J. Fred Sparke PTA Meeting

September 23, 2009

 

Meeting opened at 7:30 p.m.

COMMITEES:

Banking   TD bank is having an open house on September 29th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Bethpage. Receive $ 10.00 for summer reading program if you read 10 books. We have a new chairperson Patty Ann Tedesco. Thank  you  Patty Ann.

BooHoo Breakfast   Laura Defresne- went very well, excellent turn out. Enjoyed coffee and snacks with the parents.  The volunteer sheets were out and a lot of parents and grandparents signed up to help

Book Fair    Marion Becklein – is all set for November 23 and 24.  Volunteer sheet passed around

Catalog Sale- Theresa Foley and Victoria Macais.   Catalogs were distributed. Early bird date is September 30. There will be a raffle for a free Ipod shuffle.

Class Parent Tea  Jackie Martin- is all set for September 30th at 3:30 p.m.. We will be serving water bottles and fruit.  We are looking for volunteers to help set up and clean up. Unfortunately Jackie will not be able to attend

Class Party Goods Alaina Walsh and Theresa Foley  They will be distributed soon

Cultural Arts-  Lynann Koerber and Carmela Bach   Meeting is set up for October 9th to discuss with Stokes to try and get a discounted rate

Harvest Plant Sale  Ivia Francais  order forms went out, delivery is set for October 1

Halloween  Ivia Francais  magician hired, one hour show with an RSVP needed

Holiday Boutique and Craft fair-  chair is needed for the craft fair on December 9th

Kindergarten Orientation  Annemarie Cornell and Laura Dufresne  went well, kids took bus ride, read the Kissing Hand and experienced the lunch line process.  A special thank you to  Debbie Jablonowski,  Lee Drew, Cheryl Geller, Maureen Dieppa for all their help

Legislation   still looking for a chairperson

Meet  the Teacher  went well,   need to brainstorm a solution to the amount of noise and children present during the presentation

New Parent Tea  Elyse Miller  went very well, excellent turn out

Picture Day- Diane Greishaber   all set for October 8th, volunteers needed,  reminder not to wear a green shirt secondary to the digital imaging process

Poinsettia Sale  Maureen Dieppa  in progress

Reflections- Julie Baldock  theme this  year is “Beauty is “

School spiritwear   Annemarie Cornell   order forms going out next week, kindergarten shirts are ordered and will be in before the first field trip

School store  Michelle Ianno  will begin soon

Site Based Management  Elyse Miller  No meeting set  yet

Sparkler  Donna Kruel  will go out 3-4 times a year, 

Steering Committee   Jan Garcia   All staff received their yearly planner,  craft will be provided for each meeting along with free babysitting for those attending the meeting

Vendor Sale  Loretta Fonseca   has been in progress over the summer, volunteers still needed to canvas the neighborhood for raffles

Website-   Elyse Miller will chair this committee

Board of Education  first meeting of the year is set for September 30th 8:00 p.m. at Gallow

Council Report  Meeting was on September 14th  construction at the MMS for the handicapped ramp is delayed secondary to problems with the construction company. They were given 28 days to correct it.  New Superintendant will be compiling an email list of all the families in the district to initiated an email program.  We will be conducting an Energy Efficient Plan in the four schools  to come up with an Energy Performance Plan over the next year.  Sparke is responsible for boosters this year as well as district dinner.  Meet the candidate was removed from the calendar

Unfinished Business  none

Box Tops are doing very well. Keep up the good work. We should be expecting a check at the end of 2009 for approx.  $ 566.00

 

New Business

A motion was made by Alaina Walsh to increase the PTA dues to $ 8.00 for 2010-1011 school year. The motion was seconded by Theresa Foley and voted on by membership and passed

Only committees without chairs at this point are  Fun Fair, Holiday Craft Fair, and Legislation

Please return all ways and means to the school as soon as possible

Minutes  no corrections to the minutes.  Minutes are accepted

Reminders  all council delegates have been assigned a meeting to attend. This will alleviate the confusion as to who is or was to go to what particular meeting.  Please check your calendars for the dates of your meetings. If you can’t attend please contact an alternate delegate from the list.
