Second Selected (Independent) Reading Book Must Be Read by Nov. 10th The students will be delivering persuasive speeches convincing classmates to read their book selection. The speeches will begin on Nov. 16th. They have a handout for the organizational pattern for the speech. The next selected reading is to read four national or international news articles, as well as an editorial. They may read the articles online. Vocabulary The vocabulary for the next few weeks will be words found in The Outsiders. There will be a quiz on Friday, November 20, over the first page of the words. Reading We began The Outsiders on Nov. 6th. The first quiz over chapters 1-3 will be on Wednesday, November 18th. This will be a closed book quiz. The extra credit this quarter will be to memorize Robert Frost's poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and to deliver the recitation of the poem to Mrs. Parden. If a student wants to do this, they need to speak personally to me. Each student should have brought in a picture book to use for practicing fluency. Writing Editing of the narrative will be completed, and the final draft will be turned in on Tuesday, November 24th.
