Language Arts - 8th Grade

In 8th grade, students will read, write, analyze and discuss various forms of high quality literature.   Units we cover are short stories, fiction, nonfiction and drama. 

Students will read selections from their literature books as well as two novels during the year. 

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi is the first novel we will read.  This adventure story is set in the 1800s and the protagonist is a young 13-year-old girl named Charlotte.  Her ocean voyage takes us on a journey like no other.

The Giver by Lois Lowry is the novel we begin during the second  semester.  The author shares with us a version of a perfect world - or is it?  This year we will also attend Stages Theater in the Twin Cities to view a dramatization of this novel. 

Boys' Book Club:  A junior high boys' book club, lead by Father Klein, will begin on Thursday, October 11 at 3:30 in the school library.  For more information click on the related link below.
