Beginnings of Christianity through Explorers

image

At the beginning of the year, we take an in depth look at the historical beginnings of Christianity as a world religion.  Understanding the astonishing rate at which Christianity spread throughout the world gives us an appreciation of the power of our faith.

During the middle of the year, we study the church, the Renaissance, the Reformation and European monarchs.  During these units we increase our understanding of world governments and our role in them.

We end the year with a unit on explorers.  Increasing our awareness of world growth helps us to understand the world and relationships among countries today.

We use the textbook entitled Human Heritage:  A World History (copyright 2001).  The publisher maintains a website that contains useful and fun information for students.  You can visit this website at:  www.humanheritage.glencoe.com

Geography is also a part of the 8th grade curriculum.  Each day we research two geography questions.  This helps the students understand the world and our place in it.
