Social Studies - 7th grade
Ancient History through the Roman Empire |
|
Ancient History is the basis of study in 7th grade. We begin the year with the Ancient River Valley Civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Ancient India and China. We discuss how civilizations come to be and the resources each need to survive and thrive. During the middle of the year, we study the Phoenicians, Hebrews, and Persians. We note the contributions each civilization made to history. We also compare and contrast the reasons for the rise and fall of these civilizations. We end the year with the Greeks and Romans. These groups have made contributions to the world in the areas of architecture, language, law and religion. Our textbook is entitled Human Heritage: A World History. This text is a 2006 copyright and also has a useful internet site: www.humanheritage.glencoe.com. This site includes activities and games to help students better understand the chapter content. Geography is also part of the 7th grade curriculum. Each day, we research two geography questions. This helps the students understand the world and our place in it.
