Mr. Simon Science For All

My name is Don Simon and I have taught science at St. Mary's for 6 years (what a great place).  Before I came  here I taught at Hayfield for 33 years (that was a very nice school also).  I would like to welcome all the 7th and 8th graders back to school and especially back to science.  I have titled this page "Science for All" because I will try to show how science really is important to all.

7th Grade Life Science - In October we will be studying cells.  This will involve the use of microscopes, prepared slides, and reading material.  The students like learning to use the microsopes so I will leave them out on lab. tables for a week.  If there is something they would like to look at they can bring it in and look in the morning.

8th Grade Earth Science - In October we begin the study of space.  A related activity to do at home is to simply take a look at the night sky.  Look at the phases of the moon and the movement the stars across the sky.  Which way do the stars move?  Why are there moon phases?  Answers to be announced in class.

Science Fair Projects - All students in 7th and 8th grade will be required to have a science fair project this year.  Watch this site or your e-mail for more information.
