8th Grade Language Arts
|
|
During the second quarter, we have gone to single grade Language Arts classes. As part of our Junior High's interdisciplinary unit on Respect Life, the 8th graders will be reading Unwind by Neal Shusterman. This novel takes place in the future after a Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The result of the war was that life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. However, from the ages of thirteen to eighteen, parents can have their child "unwound," where all of the child's organs are transplanted into different donors. This novel brings forth many discussion items regarding the Catholic church's views on respecting life. Each 8th grader was asked to purchase his/her own book. As we read, students will be learning how to highlight main events, new vocabulary, characters and their traits, and other areas we will be focusing on in class. We will also work on writing marginal notes and questions.
