Feast of Christ the King-Year B

John 18:33-37

Gospel Summary

Jesus and Pilate were talking, Pilate asks Jesus if He was the King of the Jews. Jesus replies, “My kingdom does not belong to this world.” Pilate is confused and wants to know the truth. Jesus says, his kingdom does not belong to this world, if it did His followers wouldn’t hand Him over to the Jewish authorities. Whoever belongs to the truth and listens to Jesus will enter his kingdom.  In this next story, we have to learn to tell the truth by listening to God.

Personal story

Once when I was in 1st grade I cut my hair.  I thought it would be okay.  So, when my mom wasn’t home I cut my hair and put it in our kitchen sink.  I tried to wash it down, but when my mom got home, she noticed some of the hair.  She asked me if I did it. I said that I didn’t cut my hair, but I did cut my doll’s hair.  She was mad that I cut my doll’s hair, but not as mad as she would have been if she had found out what I had done.  Later that week she saw that my bangs were shorter.  I lied and said the hairstylist cut it like that when I got my hair cut.  I kept lying to cover up what I had done.

I started feeling worse and worse.  Finally, one night I prayed to God to ask Him what I should do.  I listened to God and decided to tell my mom the truth.  The next morning I did.  I was in a lot of trouble!  I was in even more trouble because I lied about it.  I was punished, but I was glad I told the truth.  My hair actually turned out quite ugly, and I had to get it cut pretty short after that.  In the end I’m so glad I told the truth and listened to God.

We always have to tell the truth. Here are some questions you can ask yourself.

1.      Have you ever lied to a friend or family member?

2.      When you told the truth were you glad you did? Why?

3.     What can you do to help yourself always tell the truth?

Prayer

Dear God please help us to be truthful. Help us to stay true to you.

                    Let us pray.

*My God I am sorry for my sins with all my heart in choosing to do wrong and failing to do good I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things I firmly intend with your help to do penance to sin no more and to avoid what ever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us in his name my God have mercy.  Amen.
