Owatonna Jr. High School 9:00 – 11:30

The Master Class is a two hour specialized clinic for middle level band students.  The class will focus on fundamentals, performing, tone, tuning and instrument techniques that may not be covered in regular band.  Each instrument group will also learn an ensemble piece that will be performed at the end of the session. The class will be geared for middle level band students in grades 7 and 8.  Listed below are the instrument groups that are included in the master class and the teacher.

Flute – Becky Berkley – Private flute teacher, performs recitals and with the Owatonna Community Band & the Owatonna Community Orchestra.

Oboe – Elizabeth Hertzfeld – Band Teacher New Prague Middle School

Bassoon – Kris Pichelman – Private bassoon teacher; author of a beginning bassoon method, taught at Normandale Community College, performs with the Austin Symphony

Clarinet – Holly Guenther – Private clarinet teacher, performs with Owatonna Community Band and Orchestra

Saxophone – Nino Tarara – Middle School Band Teacher in Austin

Trumpet – Tim Davis – Middle School Band Teacher in Austin.

Horn – TBA

Trombone – Glenn Monson – Lutheran Pastor with a background in trombone performance including the Chicago Symphony, plays with the Austin Symphony

Baritone/Tuba – Dr. Jeff Hodapp –Associate Professor of Low Brass and Music Theory at Emporia State University, Kansas.

Percussion – Jay Downie – Waseca Middle School Band Teacher.

Schedule:

8:30 – 9:00 registration

9:00 – 10:50 Instruction Time with 10 minute break with snacks

Breaks will be staggered

11:00 Informance in cafertorium in the round
