Student grades are based on percentage. A percent is calculated by dividing the points earned by the total possible points.  Students will earn percentages in the categories listed below.  Each category’s percentage is then averaged to determine the final grade:

Practice:

It is based on number of minutes practice per week as outlined on practice card.

Lesson Attendance:

5 points possible each lesson; students lose points by not coming on time, forgetting their instrument or music, and not having their practice card filled out and/or signed.

Lesson Progress:

The number of lines of music correctly played in their lesson.

(5 lines of music is considered an A.)

Rehearsal Participation:

2 points possible each rehearsal; students lose points by being late for rehearsal, not having their instrument or music, not having a pencil, or misbehaving in rehearsal.

Written Assignments:

Grading Scale is:                       A = 94-100%;             A- = 90-93%

                                                B+ = 88-89%; B = 84-87%; B- = 80-83%

                                                C+ = 78-79%; C = 74-77%; C- = 70-73%

                                                D+ = 68-69%; D = 64-67%; D- = 60-63%
