An Interest Development Project is an optional assignment for students seeking to develop their knowledge, as well as their classmates' and mine!

If you are up for the challenge, you should independently choose a topic you are interested in.  You will then research this topic and show the class in a two-minute presentation what you learned about your particular subject and how it relates to mathematics.

In an effort to stimulate creativity, the rubric for the assignment is very simple:

Category 1: Knowledge of Subject Matter (5 points)

The student must show a thorough understanding of their subject matter.  After the presentation, your classmates may ask you questions or myself and you should be able to answer to the best of your ability.

You should have enough information on your subject matter that your presentation is at least 2-minutes in length.

Category 2:  Creativity  (5 points)

I want to see what you can do!  I know each student has his or her own learning style and this is the time to let it shine! Points will be awarded based on effort shown.  A few examples: you may have a poster, create a video, do a skit, have a problem for us to solve, etc.  The list goes on and on!

If students chose to work in a group, points earned will be divided accordingly.

Project topics that are no longer eligible

-music (instruments, singing, scale, etc.)

-sports statistics (calculating averages, player stats, rules of play, etc.)

-math tricks (card tricks, mind games, etc.)

Projects for the third nine-weeks are due by Friday May 2.
