Surfing in Long Beach has seen a large spike in growth over the past 5 years and will continue to do so with the world wide exposure the World Surfing Tour event coming to town this September. The surf club believes that the Long Beach Surfing community must organize in response to this growth and will play a part in forming The Long Beach Surfer's Association, an organization whose aim is to bring together the Long Beach surfing community to address issues related to surfing in Long Beach. The first action will be an attempt to influence a positive change in our city's policy as it pertains to summertime space for surfing.
The 2010-2011 LBHS Surf Team will go down in history as the first HS surf team in New York State. The Surf Team placed 6th out of 17 teams in the NSSA North East Championships in Ocean City NJ this past November. After a long brutally cold and flat winter, the team will thaw out this spring and will focus on winning the Long Island Interscholastic Surfing Games in Montauk. The team hopes to host a meet with NJ's Ocean City High School, who are the North East's reigning champions. In addition the team will challenge the districts surfing staff to what they hope to be their first annual Student vs Teacher Surf Off.
