Scope and Sequence: Lower School Science

Science is integrated into the Junior Kindergarten curriculum. There is a designated science center within the classroom. Children are free to explore this area throughout the day. Activities are rotated weekly to reflect the topic of study. There are also times each week when science lessons are given to the entire class. These activities may emphasize science skills such as predicting, observing, comparing, and looking at cause and effect, as well as then general exploration of various living and nonliving items from our environment. Some of the topics taught during the year include the rainforest, oceans, wetlands, animal classification, weather, insects, Arctic regions, our own backyard, and outer space. These science studies provide the groundwork for more in-depth study in K-8.
