What I Expect From Students

Things You Need to Know and Have : • You need to have a pocket folder with 3 fasteners for each science unit. You will need to have a total of 5 folders. I can keep the extras for you in class until they are needed.
• You will have a handbook assigned to you for the year. This is for in-class use. You may purchase one on-line for home use. The book is about $25 and can be purchased used. See the grade page site for details. You are RESPONSIBLE for the in-class handbook. Do not write or mark in the book. If you lose it or damage it, your parents will have to replace it.
• A pencil will be needed daily for activities and assignments. Although there is a class supply of markers, crayons and colored pencils, you may bring your own if you prefer.
• For 5th and 6th grades, the class point distribution will consist of roughly the following: 50% quizzes and tests, and 30% labs, homework, papers, notebooks, and classroom participation. Oral presentations, group & individual projects are worth 20% of your grade. • Class grading scale is as follows: 90 - 100% = A 80 - 89% = B 70 - 79% = C 60 - 69% = D -
There is no reason to earn anything less than a C. I will confer with you and we will work out a plan if you're in the D range. I want you to succeed so ask if you are having problems or don't understand something. I am here to help you.
• All assignments and papers need the following information in the heading: | First Name Last Name Class section Date
Title of lab / paper or assignment | -
Please put both your last and first name on your paper. I will return the paper to you for correction until you put the proper heading on it.
Be on Time Students are expected to be in the classroom and ready to work at the start of class. At this time you need to check the board for any class information and take out your materials needed to be productive in class. Conducting Yourselves in the Classroom and Beyond
This year, Mrs. Clark's science classrooms will be using a process called "Tribes". (see the link below for further reading on the process.)
The goals of the Tribes process are to promote a caring culture, a community of learners, and an education that is responsive to the learning style and stage of development of each student. These goals are consistent with the principles of progressive education.
To achieve these goals, students will sign agreements to:
- listen attentively
- show appreciation and no 'put-downs'
- practice mutual respect
- faithfully follow the Eagle Code
Eagle Code As a member of the St. Francis community, I will practice compassion, cooperation, respect, and responsibility. I will respect myself, others, and the environment. I will act with honor and integrity.
Each of the agreements will be thoroughly taught to all of Mrs. Clark's students.
