The Alden Community Scholarship Foundation was chartered in 1998 by a group of community volunteers, spearheaded by an Alum of the Alden Central High School Class of 1962, for the purpose of establishing a Foundation to provide annual scholarship awards to the graduates of Alden High School, as these students pursue their dreams and goals of higher education. The Foundation is not-for-profit, tax-exempt and publicly supported.
The Scholarship Foundation is affiliated with Scholarship America, a national non-profit student aid service organization, and its Dollars for Scholars program. Under the Dollars for Scholars program, the matching Collegiate Partners to the Scholarship Foundation and through Scholarship America provide the opportunity for an increased scholarship award by matching the original award.
The Alden Community Scholarship Foundation is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders, Alden School District personnel, parents, and students. All monies raised by the Foundation are annually awarded to deserving students who reside within the Alden Central School District. The Foundation Board selects the recipients each year based on an application process, with financial need in mind.
The Foundation annually awards its own scholarship - the Alden Scholarship Foundation Award, from monies raised through its local fundraising projects, such as the annual 5K Race/Walk and Kids Fun Run, and from direct donations. In addition to awarding its own scholarships, the Foundation administers scholarship awards for other local groups and organizations, as well as the administration of Endowed and Memorial scholarhips.
