Welcome to the St. Mary's School Library Media Center Web Page!
The purpose of the library is to ensure that all St. Mary's students become effective users of ideas and information so that they may become independent lifelong learners; to foster in all students a love of reading and literature; and to support the curriculum being taught in the classroom. In accordance with the national school library guidelines as set forth in Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning (1998), the St. Mary's School Library Media Program strives to cultivate the natural curiosity of our students while guiding them to become effective users of ideas and information. In order to accomplish this Mrs. Berg will: - Emphasize and encourage a love of reading and learning
- Teach skills necessary to locate, evaluate and use resources
- Provide access and exposure to materials in a variety of formats
- Collaborate with other educators to provide resources and learning opportunities that support the curriculum while meeting the needs of individual students
- Present resources and activities that cover a range of experiences, ideas, opinions and perspectives
- Support the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are prerequisite to effective and responsible citizenship in a democracy.
