Honors English 2-In-Class timed Reflective Writing Assignment

Reflective Essay assignment-This assignment will be repeated until you have written an essay on EACH TOPIC.

Select ONE quote to address in your essay. Develop a thesis statement and support it with relevant examples and evidence to support your position.

Day One:

 

Reflective Essay: Using only ONE of the quotes below, draft a 5-8 paragraph essay sharing your position on the theme: Examples: What is Courage?, The Next World War. Personal Interaction with others (or What People will Remember Most about Us). Use examples from your own experience, observation, history, literature, or science and technology. Do NOT use examples only from your own life experience.

 

You have 25 minutes to complete this assignment. PLAN YOUR ESSAY: 2-3 minutes. WRITE OR DRAFT your essay: 15-20 minutes. PROOF READ AND EDIT/ REVISE- 2-3 minutes.

 

When I call “time”, you must STOP writing- whether you have completed your essay or not.

 

If you DO NOT FINISH, write ONE PARAGRAPH addressed to me explaining what aspect of this assignment was difficult and why you believe you were unable to finish.

 

YOU MAY ONLY TURN IN COMPLETED ESSAYS FOR TEACHER REVIEW.

 

Day Two: In your peer review group or with a partner, use the guideline (hand out) to share and review your essays. Each person must answer the following questions about EACH essay:

  • Did the writer complete the essay? (If no-Why not?)
  • Did the writer fully address the topic/ prompt and remain ON TOPIC?
  • One POSITIVE suggestion from each group member or partner for revision. The author must also self-evaluate.

HW- Revise essay and bring to class for Day Three.

 

Day Three: Repeat Peer Review and Re-assess.

 

Continuing Writing Practice, Peer Review, Teacher Conferencing, Self-Assessment: Complete all three essays in class and repeat process for each essay.
