What's next?

Second Semester: January 2012

Specific Marking Period Goals:

We will:

  • Continue to use California Content Standards Goals and Objectives as the benchmark; support EVERY student in mastering these standards.
  • Continue to individualize instruction and increase use of collaborative teaching model to help students understand, synthesize, apply, and improve in ELA across the curriculum in all of their Core classes.
  • Continue to develop and document INDIVIDUAL student lesson plans as part of portfolio assessment.
  • Using support from U.C. tutors, increase personal conferences with students.
  • Expect that the English 4 class will attempt AP Literature or Language  assignments, modify as needed for support- thus removing the “AP and ‘others’ status” between the classes.
  • Break challenging assignments and introduce challenging vocabulary as smaller mini-lessons to build on successes.
  • Promote student self-assessment with use of self-assessment writing rubric and Peer Response and Review guidelines for specific assignments.
  • Begin Historical Analysis collaboration with History teacher (Corella)
  • Integration of assignments with Mr. Grover to ensure practice for power point presentations, support for meeting guidelines for projects, etc. (Both juniors and seniors)
  • Daily reading requirement, continued support for academic language development, opportunities to experience success in writing and oral presentations.
  • Building student (typed) portfolios.
