7th Grade Concert Band

   Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. I expect to have a really fine 7th grade band this year. You will be expected to take your instrument home on a regular basis and when taking your instrument home you must take it home in an instrument case.

We will start out the year by reviewing EE Book I and Book II. We will also be using Rhythm Master Book I and Book II. The school will furnish you all of your music and a music folder. You will need to bring your instrument, music, music folder and a pencil to class every day.

This year we will we doing pass-off tests. Pass-off tests will only be a few measures of music but to pass-off you must play it without mistakes. Pass-off will be given after we finish each page of music in the method book and you will be given time in class to pass-off the material. You may also come in before or after school to pass-off the music.

You will be expected to take your instrument home on a regular basis. When taking your instrument home you must take it home in its case.

If your instrument needs repair it will be sent to the repair shop on Mondays. It usually takes two weeks for the instrument to be repaired and returned. I will try to have a instrument for you to use while yours is in the repair shop. The school will pay for normal repair (pads, corks, stuck slides, un-sodered braces, broken springs, re-adjustments, etc.). You will be responsible for repair caused by carelessness or neglect (broken mouthpieces, dropped instruments, etc.).

You will be playing in the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert and I plan to take you to the Highland Park Festival in April. 

We are using the Rhythm Master Book II this year. The book is diveded into lessons and we will have a test after each lesson. Please check with your child to see if they are prepared for their playing exams. It is important that each student practice their instrument outside of the regular school day.

I am available for extra help every morning before school and everyday after school except for Fridays.
