Cindy Simpson

CINDY SIMPSON, Music and Movement Specialist

Cindy began teaching at St. Francis Preschool in 1995.  This is her 9th year as the Music and Movement specialist and her 11th year at SFPS.  Cindy teaches all the preschool children from age 2 to junior kindergarten.  She shares her love of music and movement with her students and knows that she “has the best job at the preschool”!!!

Cindy is a graduate of the University of Kentucky where she earned a B.S. in Family Studies.  Her love of music began as a child when her family would enjoy family music nights.  She and her 2 younger sisters would sing in 3 part harmony as their mom played keyboard and their dad played saxophone or accordion.  At age 12 Cindy began taking guitar lessons.  The following year she and her sisters played and sang their first wedding.  To this day Cindy still loves to sing weddings because “the people you work with are always so happy!”  These days she prefers to leave the guitar accompaniment to husband, Tony.

Cindy became involved in music ministry 35 years ago and is a level II certified cantor through the Archdiocese of Louisville.  In addition to cantoring, she has co-coordinated and/or led music for various church bible school programs.  She worked as the song leader for Girl Scout camps and Boy Scout day camps for many years.  Her most memorable musical experience was the year she spent singing and dancing across Europe, Canada and along the east coast of the U.S. with “Up With People”, an international, educational group of good-will ambassadors.

Cindy loves to travel, dance, sing, walk, read, and attend Broadway shows, ballets and the orchestra.  But the thing she enjoys the most is playing music at church with her family: daughter Ashleigh, a flutist and a Music Education Major at Morehead State University, son Jordan a percussionist in the North Oldham High School band and a member of the Louisville Youth Orchestra Percussion Ensemble and Symphonic Band, and her guitarist husband, Tony.  “It’s the only style of music we can all play together!”
