Lakshmi was born in India and came to the United States in 1980.  She did her undergraduate and graduate studies in India in Home Economics.  After completing her Master’s degree she worked as an Adult Education Coordinator for two years in India before coming to the USA.  Here she pursued studies in Early Elementary Education at Carlow College, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for one year and the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio for two years. She completed all but student teaching before moving to Clarksville, Tennessee.  In August 1987, she and her family moved to Louisville.  In 2002, she completed her Master of Education degree in Educational Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville. 

Her husband Dr. Srinivasan is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Louisville.  They have two children.  Their daughter Sowmya is at the U of L Medical School and son Harish is a sophomore at Duke University.

Lakshmi loves children and has worked with them for many years.  She started teaching part time in preschools when her children went to school full-time.  Until May 2002 she worked with 4 and 5 year olds at St. Francis Preschool. Before that she worked at Highlands Baptist Church preschool.  After receiving her Master of education she began working as a substitute elementary school teacher for the Jefferson County Public School System.
