 Kate Chopin authored a number of short stories and the novel The Awakening in the late 19th century. Her work often focused on women who were oppressed by marriage and the conventional lifestyle. Interestingly, she attended Sacred Heart Academy; however, it was located in St. Louis, not Buffalo.
