Legal situations
Using the Bill of Rights, complete the activities found in the files and text below. Print all work from this site.

You are the defense lawyer on the cases below. Tell which Amendment and what clause you would employ to defend your client.

1. Jordan is sentenced to life under a “felony-murder” statute requiring that those involved in a felony in which a murder takes place are just as guilty as the triggerman.

2. Savannah is suspended from school for wearing a shirt with a dismembered fetus in order to protest abortion.

3. Mr. Lindsey is taken to court for inviting a Rabbi to pray at a graduation ceremony.

4. Blake, the Valedictorian, is taken to court for saying a prayer at graduation before his speech.

5. When he was a classroom teacher, Dr. Harper was missing five dollars. He got Ms. Hobson to strip search the girls in the girl’s bathroom, while he strip searched the boys in his office. It was found that Mary and Garrett stole his money.

6. The campus police officer arrests Charris for no reason and gives him no explanation.

7. Ayreonna is arrested for shoplifting from the Kangaroo. She spends five years in jail waiting for her day in court.

8. Zivenchy is accused of beating up a sixth grader. The boy will not testify because he is so afraid of her.

9. Mr. Lindsey allows the Black Panther Party to give a speech at Central. The KKK asks him for a date to give their speech and he says “no”. You represent the Klan.

10. Lamar has been arrested for possessing napalm. He wants to keep it.

11. Courtney loves her boyfriend and dog equally. (It is the year 3009). She wants the “right to clone” her dog with the boy, creating the world’s first dogboy.

12. Jazz is suspected of causing the breakup of the Backstreet Boys (which was a crime back in 1998). He is being held in jail until he confesses the crime.
