 Parent Letter

Hello Parents!!  Welcome back from summer vacation!  It is time to start another school year!  I hope you all had a restful vacation and you are recharged and ready to begin.  I had a fabulous summer!  I was able to spend time with family and friends, vacation with my husband, and just relax by the pool.

It has been a privilege to have had your child in the past and I am eager to work with you again.  There are some parents whom I am just meeting for the first time.  So here is a little bit about me.  I am beginning my 5th year teaching third grade here at Saint Barnabas.  I am very excited to begin a new school year with your child.  I love it here at St. Barnabas.  The students and staff are great.  I feel very blessed to be a part of this family.  I grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana.  I am part of a very close-knit and wonderful family!  In fact, my entire family lives in the same neighborhood!  My aunts, uncles, and both sets of my grandparents.  I love going home to visit everyone.  In 2004, I graduated from Indiana State University where I received my B.S. in Elementary Education with an endorsement in computer literacy.  In February of 2007, I married my high school sweetheart, Barry.  We enjoy many outdoor activities, spending time with friends, exercising, and traveling.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child.  The first few days of school will be spent becoming familiar with our new classmates and learning the rules and procedures.   I am very excited to begin this 3rd grade year!

Discipline Plan

The discipline plan that I use in my classroom consist of various colored popsicle sticks.  Every student will begin each day with a yellow stick which is a BLESSING!

Each colored stick represents a consequence:

v   Blue-warning

v   Purple-5 minutes of recess

v   Orange-entire recess

v   Green-note to parents explaining behavior

v   Red-principles office.

If their behavior is not appropriate or does not follow the rules, they will be asked to flip a stick.  At the end of each day, I will draw a students’ name and if they kept their blessing, they will be able to pick an item from the treasure chest.  If your child did not earn any sticks for an entire month, they will be part of a celebration at the end of each month!

Throughout the year, I will keep track of all of the sticks your child received.  I will also state why your child earned the stick.  You will be notified on Friday if your child had to flip a stick during the week.  It will be written in your child’s Friday folder.

     Communication

This school year will be a great success if there is open COMMUNICATION between us!  I am available and here for you!  Here is how I plan to communicate with you:

Newsletters-ready on Mondays and posted on the webpage.  If you prefer a hard copy, please let me know and I will send one home with your child.

Email-please feel free to email me with questions or comments.

Daily homework assignments-posted on the web page.  Your child will also be responsible for writing it in their planners.

        Conferences-if needed

Friday Folder-stick count and reason will be displayed inside the folder.  All of your child’s work will be in the folder.  Please review and keep the papers.  Sign the folder and return it the following Monday.

Web page-lots of information!! Please view the webpage often.  It is a great resource and will ensure that you are up to date on what is happening in the classroom!
