Welcome back to Jefferson Middle School for the 2009-2010 school year. This year I will be co-teaching for the first semester with Ms. Traber, a Teacher Candidate from Saint Martin's University. 8th Grade Social Studies: This class covers American History with a focus on the development of the U.S. Constitution and government. We will begin the year studying U.S. Geography. Then move into early American History by studying Native American societies, colonization and the Revolutionary War. Second quarter will focus on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, as well as the American court system. Third quarter we will study slavery and the Civil War. Fourth quarter will move into the reconstruction and Western Expansion. We will end the year with a Classroom Based Assessment project (CBA) that will look at constitutional interpretation of current social issues. Exploratory: This class will focus on student leadership, career planning and community service. Some time will also be provided in this class for homework support.
