GET TO KNOW YOUR CHILD'S SCHEDULE

Take an active role in your child's education.

Learn what classes your son/daughter is taking this year.

Get to know the teachers and faculty members in the school.

Check out teacher's websites.  Many teachers post important information about homework assignments, tests/quizzes, and projects.

Discuss school activities with your son/daughter.  Encourage them to join something!

If your child is struggling in a class, suggest staying 10th period for additional help.

Monitor your child's after-school activities.  Know where your children are and what they are doing!  Help them to develop a good routine of going to bed early, getting up early, and eating a good breakfast.

Monitor your child's Internet use.  Know what they are posting (pictures, messages, instant messaging) on their MySpace or Facebook accounts.  Listen to the music they are listening to...Make time to learn what is important to them.

As a high school student, your child should be doing homework every night.  They should be bringing textbooks and notebooks home with them.  Help them develop good study habits by suggesting they complete homework in the same place at the same time each day.

Utilize your child's school counselor!   Ask questions and share good news.
