What is PFEW?
A unique and challenging program designed for high school sophomores and juniors.  PFEW furnishes a perfect opportunity for eager students to learn about career opportunities that students may never have considered.  This generation faces a fast-paced, business-orientated world filled with endless changes and challenges.  With practical tools and suitable knowledge, countless doors of opportunity can open for students. 
Live on Campus!
PFEW takes place on the campuses of Lycoming College and Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pennsylvania during four one-week sessions:  July 4-10, July 11-17, July 25-31 and August 1-7.  All participants are required to live on campus for the entire week. 
Why?
Students will have the opportunity to meet and work with some of Pennsylvania's top executives.  Respresenting career fields including law, finance, engineering, manufacturing, advertising, environmental protection, computer technology, and politics, these inspiring professionals will share their motivational stories with you.  And get this--you'll even get to rub elbows with a nationally syndicated cartoonist!

All students selected for this program will receive a free FULL tuition scholarship---there is no cost to attend this program.

Attention Juniors interested in careers in the Health Sciences: 
(Pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, biomedical engineering, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, etc.) 

The University of Pittsburgh Health Scholars Academy (June 27-July 24, 2010)
four-week, residential summer program held on the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh
The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is one of the nation's most renowned academic medical centers.  Deadline for applications is February 5, 2010.  Scholarships are available!  The application is quite long, so apply early!

Admission into health science programs for college is EXTREMLY competitive.  The Health Scholars Academy is a VERY PRESTIGIOUS program for students interested in pursuing careers in health care after graduation.  This 28-day summer program allows students to work with health care professionals and leading science researchers.  This program is HIGHLY SELECTIVE and is a great addition to a college admissions application.  Although this program requires a big time committment, the benefits of participating in this program are numerous.  Students interested in pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-pharmacy, pre-veterniary medicine or students interested in attending highly selective colleges NEED TO PREPARE NOW by taking advantage of opportunities such as these. 

What does the program include?
Two day-long shadow experinces, multiple site visits, leadership projects, small group discussion groups, guest speakers, simulation games, team projects, and presentations.

OPEN HOUSE DATES
Many colleges and universities sponsor open houses in the Fall.  Open houses are a great way to begin exploring colleges!  On these dates, admissions departments often provide school tours and valuable information about academic majors, school housing, dining facilities, extracurricular opportunities, and athletic programs.  They are a great way to get an overview of a college campus.  Take your family and friends and begin exploring!

ATTENTION SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS:
Volunteer opportunities are available at Mercy Hospital for students interested in careers in occupational therapy or physical therapy.  Students in these fields should start accumulating observation hours now!  College admission in these fields is very competitive and many schools require students to have documented observation hours.  These are great opportunities for students to see first hand what professionals in these fields do on a daily basis.  Stop by the guidance office for more information.
