Mr. Ostermeier-choir Welcome to GENERAL MUSIC CHOIR With Mr. Ostermeier All students in K-5 participate in general music at St. Mary’s School. We meet three times per week for 25 minutes. We learn music concepts that follow the National MENC Curriculum Guidelines. We love to sing, play instruments, improvise, compose and listen to a variety of music from around the world. We also prepare the music for worship in our weekly masses. The 6-8 choir has a participation rate of 96% of all the students at St. Mary’s school. We meet three times per week in sectionals of about 20 students. We learn more about singing correctly and musically. We also prepare for our weekly masses and encourage students to lead in our worship services. The last portion of choir is music appreciation. During this weekly class, we study music history, improvisation, theory, and composition. FIRST QUARTER ACTIVITIES: All choirs are preparing for the Grandparent/Special Friend Concert. Word sheets will be sent home with all students the first week in October. Younger students love doing a family concert at home in preparation for the school concert. Let them know that you are interested in hearing their songs! Junior high students who are not in band will take Music Appreciation for one quarter this year. Eighth grade girls will meet first quarter. The following quarters will include seventh grade girls, eighth grade boys, and finally, seventh grade boys. Each quarter will include music history, music theory, improvisation, and composition. Our junior high students will study the Classical Period of music.
