Project 1: Biotechnology Careers

Task Three: Use NoteStar to collect information about biomedical and biotech careers

Please use this keyboard sequence to get back to these instructions as you follow the procedure step-by-step.

  1. You should now have familiarized yourself with NoteStar.  If you have not please go back to Task 1.
  2. Login to NoteStar.
  3. Click on the LifeWorks link below.
  4. Click on the Career Finder.  Click Start.
  5. Check three boxes in the Job Categories Page:  Healthcare Practitioners and Technical, Life, Physical and Social Science, and Healthcare Support.  Click Next.
  6. Answer all other questions, clicking next when appropriate.
  7. View the career results and take notes in NoteStar.
  8. If you do not get at 10 careers results related to biomedical research or biotechnology then follow the link on the LifeWorks site to Interest Areas, where you can see a complete list of career titles.
  9. If you still do not get 10 career results related to biomedical research or biotechnology then follow the second link on this page to Careers in Biotechnology.

  10. You need only select three out of the 10 to do further research on.  However, I willl look in NoteStar to make sure you did indeed look at at least 10 different careers.  Remember this is not for my benefit, it is for yours.  You want to know what opportunities lie for you in the future.
  11. Use the NoteStar Bookmark button to collect the website information.  Take notes to include the following about each of the three careers you have selected:
    • Career title
    • Career description
    • Education required
    • Median Salary in our region (Triangle, NC)
  12. Now go back to the Task 2 subpage and complete the questions found there and publish your Filamentality webpage.

Task Four:  Manage and Printout your notes and bibliographies

NoteStar has a Project Manager.  Here you can find links to help you print out your bibliography.

  1. Click on Manage Notes and find the printer-friendly version and print out this page.
  2. Surf back to the Project Manager page.
  3. Find the Bibliography link to the MLA format.
  4. Find the printer-friendly version and print out your bibliography
