Projects
Introduction to Projects Your goal in these projects is to learn more about the real world and your place in it. Are there really cool jobs in biotechnology that can become your life’s work? Is there a disease that you want to know more about or that has affected you or someone you love? These projects will provide you with an opportunity to learn.
My hope is that you will enjoy your project and demonstrate your best abilities to yourself and your classmates. To allow maximum flexibility, there will only be a few guidelines. However, the quality of your work will be evaluated. A rubric for each project will be posted in the links below. Topics Project 1: Careers in Biotechnology
In the first project, you will learn about careers in biotechnology. You may have never heard of some of these careers before, but they may turn out to be just right for you. Even if you don't find a job in biology that that interests you the skills you will learn in how to search for information on jobs will serve you no matter what career you choose.
Project 2: Human Diseases/Biomedical research
The second project will allow you to learn an area of medical biology that interests you. Over your lifetime diseases and medical breakthroughs will have a large impact on your lives. The skills you will learn as you pursue this research project will give you the information skills needed to navigate through an increasingly complex healthcare system.
How to start
Start your research by following one of the Project subpages in the menu on the left under the Projects menu item.
You will be using the first subpage for both projects. The first subpage will provide you with instructions on how to use a web-based tool that will help you take notes and collect information and web-addresses for your bibliography.
You will only need the second subpage for the first project. The second subpage will provide you with instructions on how to publish your findings on your own webpage on the Internet.
Project 1: Careers in Biotechnology
The third subpage will provide you with a list of career websites and hyperlinks for you to explore.
Project 2: Human Diseases/Biomedical research
The fourth subpage will provide you with topics to consider and hyperlinks for your project on Human Disease.
