A "hodag"

Welcome!  I think that we are going to have a great semester!  I hope you find this website helpful!  On this website you can find weekly classroom plans, homework due dates, additional copies of handouts, book suggestions, ways to turn in homework and more!

15 Things About Me:

1) I grew up in Rhinelander, WI.  It's a small town up north that I love dearly.  I grew up on a small lake and to this day feel the most alive around nature and on water.

2) I have a 24 year old brother attending UW-Milwaukee and a 27 year old sister who lives in Denver - both are great friends to me; I couldn't have asked for better siblings.

3) My parents are both retired teachers!  Surprise, surprise, my mom is a retired English teacher - to this day, I still think she was the BEST teacher I've ever had - she inspired me to become what I am today.  She taught me to think, stand up for what I believe in and to never stop learning.  (and yes I had both parents for teachers!)

4) My father is an amazing man who has the ability to befriend anyone, see the best in any situation and person and make any situation funny - I strive to be half the person he is everyday.   My father is a funnier version of Atticus Finch if you ask me.

5) I married a Californian. . . who is also amazing!  I still can't believe I got him to move to Wisconsin with me - but I did, and he loves it now (just not our sports teams)!

6) I love to read.  Obviously.  I think reading is one of the best escapes of the world.  It allows us to see, hear and learn about other places and people.

7) I graduated Magma Cum Laude from UW-Eau Claire with a comprehensive degree in English Education.  UWEC was the perfect fit for me. . .

8) I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Educational Leadership.  I did the entire degree online and loved it!  It really showed me the possibilities for education in the future.

9) One of the bravest things I have ever done is pack up my car and move to California after college.  To this day, it was one of the most amazing experience of my life.  It really changed my life.

10) The best trip I've taken is when my husband and I backpacked through Europe.  We went to: France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland and Italy. . . it was surreal.

11) I love photography.  I'm constantly taking photos and experimenting with it.  I hope to do it as a side job some day.

12) My favorite book is The Great Gatsby.  There is something so magical about the way the story transports you right to the corruption and craze of the 1920's.

13) My other favorite books are: A Farewell to Arms (Hemingway), Beloved (Morrison), Memoirs of a Geisha (Golden), To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society (Shaffer), Fahrenheit 451 (Bradbury) and MANY, MANY more!

14) I have been teaching for 8 years now and hope to teach for many more.  I feel SO lucky in my profession - I couldn't imagine doing anything else.  I hope you enjoy my class as much as I enjoy teaching it!

15) I can't wait to work with you all!  I look forward to it!!
