Beginning of the Year Our year is off to a fantastic start! We have had a lot of fun learning about and exploring watermelons. We did measuring activities finding the radius, circumference and measuring how far we were able to spit a seed. We picked out (yuck!), counted and graphed the seeds inside the melon. We also did some research on the ibooks to find some very interesting information about the melons that we did not know before! We also made 3-D paper watermelons and drew symmetrical slices for a math activity. And....we ate the red, juicy, sweet watermelon creating more words for our alphabox vocabulary activity. From that point we used our ibooks again and learned a software program called "Kidspiration". One last activity we will do next week is to create a diamonte poem using words we brainstormed on our alphabox chart. We have been getting to know each other by playing 'getting to know you' games like Friend Bingo and "Getting to Know You Grid". We start our first "Star of the Week" next week and will learn more about Brad! I have been informally getting to know the students, their strengths, weaknesses and work habits as we have been doing these activities and more!
