News for next week:
Reading:
· Story for next week will be "Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears", a folktale. We will be comparing this story with other folktales.
· Skills we will be working on with the summarizing important information in a text.
· Vocabulary words: council, duty, tidbit, nonsense, mischief, satisfied
Spelling words: er, ir, ur sounds *(Students will choose 2 out of the three
groups of words to study for Friday’s test)
Words are: Group A: curl, term, birth, shirt, clerk, purse
Group B: perfect, burned, jerked, person, germ, thirty
Challenge: nervous, whispering, error, calendar, commercial, purchase
Red words: no words this week
MATH: This week we discussed and went on an angle hunt in the classroom. We learned about obtuse, right, acute and straight angles. We also did some fun activities with symmetry using “mirras”.
Next week we will:
· build triangles and quadrilaterals
· build triangle and quadrilaterals using designated types of angles
· practice subtraction with 3 digit numbers
SCIENCE: Next week we will be reviewing all of the forces and motion activities we have been discussing. A study guide will come home on Monday and the test will be on Thursday.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will begin to create our Third Grade Chocolate Company from the bottom up. We will discuss necessary vocabulary and decide what we will be producing on candy making day!
