SEPTA (Special Education PTA)

Who is eligible?

 

All current graduating seniors who are special education students with an IEP. Students that were declassified within the past two school years will be eligible to apply for this scholarship. The student or a member of the student’s family must be a member of Smithtown SEPTA prior to March 1st of the graduation year.

 

How are winners selected?

 

Winners (typically no more than 5) will be selected anonymously (student name is removed from all application materials and student is assigned a code number) by a judging committee comprised of the SEPTA president, former president, high school special education lead teacher, one guidance counselor from each High School campus and Vocational Coordinator by early April. The award ceremony will be held in May 2010.   No materials will be returned to the candidate.

 

How much is the scholarship?

 

Each recipient will receive a scholarship amount based on the monies raised during the current year’s fundraising.  The scholarship will be awarded at the Senior Awards Night and will be identified as a SEPTA (Special Education PTA) award.

 

The scholarship must be used for school fees such as tuition, books or lab fees, or it will be considered taxable income.

 

Requirements:

Compose and submit a brief letter describing why you would like to be considered for the scholarship, all activities, organizations and/or work participated in during your high school years. Attach your letter to the application form.

 

Please note: Scholarships will be awarded at the Senior Awards Night and will be identified as a SEPTA (Special Education PTA) award.
