CLASSROOM NEWS November 16 Please help your child to remember to bring a sweater or light weight jacket to wear at recess. We go out at 11:00 and it hasn't warmed up yet. Last week it was below 50 degrees and a few didn't have anything to put on. The weather changes daily. This month the children will donate canned food for the poor. Help the children find a way that they buy the item on their own so that it is truely from them, even if it is just one can out of the amount that your family donates . Our room has donated 44 cans so far. I'm planning on checking for marked sweaters and sweatshirts this week. I didn't get to this last week. Last week we talked about Veterans Day. It was neat having the children share about their relatives that were veterans. There were some neat stories. The children created their saint posters last week. They liked using their colored pencils. The posters are hanging up in the hall. They are really nice. I introduced the second vowel: i. We are concentrating on the short sound of i as in pin. It will help so much if they have mastered short a, at least it's name, sound, and the fact that "a" is a vowel. We'll continue to work with short i this week. We'll do more bending this week now that they know the individual sound of "i". The children love to draw when they have free time, such as when they arrive in the morning or when their work is done. I really need scrap paper. If your workplace has paper that is clean on one side and what is on the other is not confidential and they are getting rid of it, would you be able to send it to us? It can be any size. I'd appreciate anything so that I don't have to use the good paper that I ordered. It's needed for other projects. Thanks. Mrs. Perkins shared some reminders about uniforms to the children. This would be a good time to review what the children may wear. Sometimes the children will need to bring chapstick and coughdrops to school. That's fine but these are medicines. Just send me a note or write in the planner that your child needs to use these. I'll make sure that they are not overused. Thanks. Here are reminders for this week: Begin to send in food items for the poor. MONDAY Buy lunch and milk tickets (If you didn't buy a milk ticket last week, you need to buy one this week. It is $4 for 10 milks. You may not buy a milk ticket for one week. Please send $4, not $2. Thanks.). Music TUESDAY WEDNESDAY Mass Library books are due back. THURSDAY Gym FRIDAY Reading homework sheet is due. Thanks for your help. Have a good week. Miss Hellmer .
