Hello! This is my 32nd year of teaching. I earned my BS in education from Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis) in 1974 and my MS in education from Butler in 1980. Before I taught here, I taught for four years at Saint Rita's. I have taught in each of the primary grades here at Saint Barnabas and at St. Rita's. This year I am teaching second grade ERE at Saint Barnabas Parish on Mondays. This year my goal is to help each child grow in his or her faith and love. I will try to create a safe and cheerful atmosphere in my classroom! This year your child will be introduced to the letter names and sounds. They will start to build a beginning readiness vocabulary as well as being introduced to beginning comprehension skills. They will also have creative writing experiences and they will explore early math concepts. In religion, the children will have experiences that will build on the faith that each of you have shared with them and these experiences will help them grow in their love of God! As you know, you as parents are very important when it comes to your child's education both at home and in the classroom. At home, I depend on you to reinforce the skills that have been introduced during the day at school. You will receive a homework letter that will serve as a guideline for you as you help your child each night. Checking their planner daily and homework hotline weekly will help you keep in touch with school. I am looking forward to working with each of you this year. By working together, we will help your child have the best year possible! Thank you. Miss Hellmer
