HOMEWORK               Week of  November 16

**Is your child able to tie their shoes?

VOCABULARY WORDS:    big  is     These are the new words for this week.  This week's sound is short i.  Once they learn that sound they will be able to sound out many new words.     Be sure to review:  "black",  "pink",  "purple",  "brown", "red", "yellow" , "blue",  "green",  "orange", "it".  "in",  "on",  "to",  "can",    "we",  "and",  "at",   "am",  "go", "I", "like", "the",  "my", and "a".  In this section of my webpage I have included a word list that I will add to as words are introduced.  You should be able to click on Vocabulary.  There is another page with words that can be sounded out.

READER:  I am hoping to send home a simple reader.  Your child will read it to you.  There will be a sheet for you to sign.  Both must be returned the next day.  I'll do this once or twice a week.  It's been hard to do this for a couple of weeks.

SOUND SKILL:   Ii  This is the second vowel to be introduced.   I will concentrate on the short i sound as in pig.  This is the first one that they need to master. You can practice blending the consonants  that have been introduced with short a and short i.   First make sure that your child recognizes the letter by name.  Then practice it's sound.   ***The children also must know if the letter is a consonant or a vowel and which letter is the upper case and which is the lower case.  Both of these concepts are hard to master.  They will need constant reviewing.  Review    G,   F,  D,  N,  A,  C,  M,  P.  R,  S,  T.

I might send home a letter booklet to complete at home.  They need to make a picture on each page that begins with the book's letter.  You need to write the name of the picture or help them write it on each page.   Try to help them fold it into a book. Then read the booklet together.

MATH: Practice printing the numbers from 0 to 8.

Keep reviewing left and right .

Practice making sets of objects from 0 to 8.

Vocabulary:  more, fewer, less, same, greater than

RELIGION:  Practice the Sign of the Cross.  They need to know the words and the motions.  This will also help them learn which is their right hand.  They also need to learn the Angel of God prayer.  We say it every day at school.  Both of these prayers will be assessed at the end of the first quarter.

The prayer for the second quarter is the Our Father.  This is a hard prayer to learn and will take a lot of practice.  I usually take a line at a time so that they understand what the words mean and they pronounce the words correctly.   I will work on the next line:  Give us  this day  our  daily  bread....and forgive us our trespasses...

Read stories together.  Talk about the story.
