The purpose of this course is to develop the geometric relationships and deductive strategies that can be used to solve a variety of real-world and mathematical concepts. Topics: The content will include, but not limited to, the following: · Terminology and fundamental properties of geometry. · Deductive and inductive reasoning and their application to formal and informal proof. · Formulas pertaining to measurement of plane and solid figures. · Coordinate geometry and transformations on the coordinate plane. · Properties of circles. · Right triangle trigonometry. · Geometric constructions. · Exploration of geometric relationships such as parallelism, perpendicularity, congruence, and similarity. Expectations: After successfully completing this course, the student will: · Demonstrate understanding of the terminology and fundamental properties of geometry. · Demonstrate an understanding of deductive and inductive reasoning. · Demonstrate an understanding of transformational and coordinate geometry. · Demonstrate the ability to solve real-world problems by using geometric models and/or applying geometric properties. Sequence: Textbook chapters will be covered in approximately the following sequence: Semester 1: · Chapter 01 – Essentials of Geometry · Chapter 02 – Reasoning and Proof · Chapter 03 – Parallel and Perpendicular Lines · Chapter 04 – Congruent Triangles · Chapter 05 – Relationships within Triangles
Semester 2: · Chapter 06 – Similarity · Chapter 07 – Right Triangles and Trigonometry · Chapter 08 – Quadrilaterals · Chapter 09 – Properties of Transformations · Chapter 10 – Properties of Circles · Chapter 11 – Measuring Length and Area · Chapter 12 – Surface Area and Volume of Solids
