1. Essential Question Due: Thursday, 10/1/09
What is the most important thing you hope to get out of this class that will positively impact your education and your future success?
Directions: the essential question and response must be written in Section II of your composition notebook and your response must be entered on my blog.
Your response must be a minimum of 35 words. You are required to write one comment on another student's blog posts with a minimum of 20 words.

2. Excited About What's New
For the 2009 - 2010 school year the business department at RMS is offering the following courses:
Business Technology Applications
- Available to 8th grade students only
- Offered for one full year
- Upon successful completion, students will have meet the technology requirement for graduation
- Students who successfully complete this course will not have to take this course in high school
- Students are eligible to join Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
Newspaper - Print Journalism
- Available to 6th grade students during 4th period only
- Offered for nine (9) weeks
- Students study the history of newsprint and learn the five W's and H of story writing
- Students learn other journalistic techniques to include writing, editing, interviewing, and photography
- At the end of the term, students will have a finished newspaper to distribute to the student body and community
Personal Finance
- Available to 6th grade students during 6th period only
- Offered for nine (9) weeks
- Students learn the basics of personal finance, to include, the history of the banking system, how money is distributed into the economy, the purpose of a savings and checking and how to benefit from both, what is credit and how it is established, creating a budget, learning about a needs vs. a want, research careers, taxes, and the stock market.
- Visit the First Educators Credit Union located on campus and learn how to conduct a personal transaction with a savings account
- At the end of this course, students will have an opportunity open their own savings account with FECU
Wow...now this means I better get busy working on my lesson plans! Yikes! I'm excited. Really!
