One World, Our Classroom Welcome to our class website! Classroom Management Our class will follow Cedar Fork’s motto: SHINE! S-Show safe behavior H- Have a positive attitude I - I will be a team player N- Never give up E- Expect success On the first day of school, we will discuss how the motto will look in our classroom. In addition, our class will have the following guidelines: · I will treat you with respect so you will know how to treat me. · Feel free to do anything that doesn’t cause a problem for anyone else. · If you cause a problem, I will ask you to solve it. · If you can’t solve the problem, or choose not to, I will do something. · What I do will depend on the special person and the special situation. · If you feel something is unfair, whisper to me, “I’m not sure that’s fair,” and we will talk. Homework Each day your child will bring home a planner with their homework assignments written in it. The homework will be due the following day. Tuesday Folders On Tuesdays, your child will bring home a Cedar Fork folder filled with his/her assessments from the previous week and notices from the school. Please sign and return any assessments. It is very important to return the assessments for their portfolio. The Tuesday Folder needs to be returned on Wednesday or the next school day. Newsletter The newsletter will be posted on the CFES every other week. If you do not have access to the internet, I can send a hard copy home with your child. Your Child’s Education I teach according to the second grade objectives on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. School Attendance Official school hours are from 8:45-3:45 and Early Release Days are on Friday. Children may not arrive at the classroom before 8:45. If a child arrives after 9:15 he/she must get a tardy slip in the office. If a student needs to leave early, they must be signed out in the office. If your child’s transportation arrangements will be different on any give day, you must write me a note specifically stating the change. If your child is absent from school for any reason, you must send a note upon their return. This absent note is required by the office for each absence. Grading Scale Students will be graded on a scale from 1-4 include “P” for practice work. More information about grading will be presented at the Open House. Specials Schedule Every day the students will go to a special class from 2:55-3:40, with the exception of Day 6 when our specials are from 9:20-10:05. Our schedule is as follows: Day 1 - Technology; Day 2 - Art; Day 3 - P.E.; Day 4 - Media; Day 5 - Music; Day 6 - P.E. Lunch We will go to lunch every day from 1:25-1:55. If you would like to join your child for lunch, please sign in at the office and meet them in the cafeteria. If your child is buying lunch please make sure they have money in their account or lunch money every day. Every student has a lunch account in which you can put money ahead of time. If your child’s account is running low, he/she will receive a sticker from the cafeteria and a notice will be sent home as a reminder to add more money. Breakfast costs $1.00 and lunch costs $2.00. Recess Recess time will be each day after lunch. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and playing. Students should wear sneakers for recess. Your child may bring in sneakers to change into before going out. If it is extremely hot or cold, or raining, we will have indoor recess. Playground expectations will be discussed the first day of school. Birthday Policy It is now the policy of Cedar Fork Elementary that birthdays will be celebrated the last day of the month. For example: all August birthdays will be celebrated August 31st. The classroom mom will coordinate - snack and drink with the parents of the children who will be celebrating. Snacks Since our lunch time is so late, your child can bring a HEALTHY snack to eat in the morning. Drinks Due to our extremely busy and full daily schedule, students will be limited in getting drinks during classroom time. If you would like, you may send a water bottle (only with water) for your child to drink throughout the day. Scholastic Book Orders Book orders will begin soon. Look for information once a month in your child's Tuesday folder. You can order on-line or make checks out to "Scholastic Book Clubs". Parent-Teacher Communication Occasionally, I will send home letters with your child. Please check your child’s planner, homework folder, Tuesday Folder, and backpack to see if there are any letters from me. If you need to contact me, I can be reached at the school at 388-5240 or mcashin@wcpss.net and I will call you back as soon as I get the message. I will also respond to letters and email. Please tell your child to give me any communication first thing in the morning.
Trading Cards/Toys Trading cards such as Pokemon and Yugioh cards are no longer permitted at school. Please also make sure students are not bringing toys to school. This helps lessen the amount of distractions in the room. I appreciate your help.
