Skills Covered

In spelling, we are using Great Source's Vocabulary. We will do a unit per week except on shortened weeks. Each week students will write sentences using the spelling words correctly in addition to the regular exercises in the book. There will be a Spelling test each Tuesday.  Every 7th week, we will do a review list of 20 words from the previous 6 lists.  There will be a spelling and a vocabulary test over these 20 words.

In English,  we will use Great Source's Write Source. We will have exercises, worksheets, and board work that concentrate on types of sentences, improving writing skills, and writing paragraphs and essays. We will write a short research packet in conjunction with Social Studies. We also are doing an analogy each day. This notebook will be graded approximately every 10 words. I am collecting $5.00 for the English newspaper, "Write Stuff", which we will use once per month. In Literature, we will use Prentis Hall's Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes: Copper Level as well as trade books. We will memorize poetry throughout the  year and give speeches. There will be one book report each quarter. Most of the  work will be done outside of the classroom. A check sheet will be sent  home to be signed, and the students are to have a book chosen and approved (by me).
