Joanne H. Greaver

Joanne Greaver has a B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics (University of Louisville), a Masters in Secondary Education (University of Louisville), a Masters of Arts in Teaching Mathematics (Purdue University), and is working on a doctoral program.  She is certified as a Rank I teacher. 

Ms. Greaver has taught mathematics at the elementary, middle, high school and college levels.  Her college experience includes teaching statistics, all levels of algebra and teacher-education mathematics courses.  For two years, Ms. Greaver taught in the Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program,  a summer-residency program for the top high school juniors in the state.  Before retirement, Ms. Greaver was the Content Specialist for Mathematics in the Jefferson County Office of Curriculum and Assessment.  In this role, she worked with 150 schools at all three levels in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Ms. Greaver received the first United States Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics.  She also received the Teacher of the Year Award from JCPS, and an award from the State Board of Education for Outstanding Achievement as a Classroom Teacher. From 1983 until her retirement, Ms. Greaver received an Outstanding Professional Achievement Award from JCPS each year.  She has received numerous other awards, and is a member of various Professional Education and Honorary Associations.  She has served as a consultant to Educational Testing Service (ETS), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Diffusion Network (NDN), and numerous schools, districts and teachers.

Ms. Greaver is a writer and editor of professional documents.  Her workbook, Down Algebra Alley, has been sold nationwide.  Teaching algebra so all can understand is her professional specialty.  She contributed to and edited four editions of the popular "Ideas to Go" series for the Greater Louisville Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  Twice, she has served as president of GLCTM, as well as  president of the Kentucky Council of Teachers of Mathematics (KCTM).

Ms. Greaver is a frequent speaker at state, regional and national conferences.  On October 30, 2004, she spoke at the KCTM Fall Conference in Frankfort.  Her topic was Don't Tell Me!  Don't Show Me! Guide Me!  On April 6, 2005, Ms. Greaver was one of the first speakers at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual conference in Los Angeles.  Her topic was Make Your Students Masters and Commanders of their Mathematics (All of Your Students).  Last  spring, Ms. Greaver gave a workshop on writing in the content area for the Archdioses of Louisville and a workshop on teaching algebra to achieve success for all students at the conference of Kentucky Independent Schools.  On October 19, 2007, Ms. Greaver spoke at the KCTM Fall Conference in Lexington. Her topic was Prime Power.  Ms. Greaver is listed in Who's Who in Education and Who's Who in America.  She has one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Greaver-Turner, M. D.
