1st Trimester - Welcome We have designed a great program that will meet the needs of our sixth grade students this year. Mrs. Singleton will be your student's Math teacher. Mrs. Martin will be their Language Arts and Writing teacher. Mrs. Hutton will be their Science, Social Studies and Writing teacher.
Things you should know....
6th Grade
Laguage Arts: Students are beginning the trimester with a Theme "for each Houghton Mifflin story. Each story selection has a list of vocabulary words and a PDF study guide on my (Mrs. Martin's) homework page. We will also be reading Novels in class and using study guides to apply and practice our reading skill standards. There is also a link to the Houghton Mifflin website (www.eduplace.com/kids) where you can find an e-glossary that has all of the definitions for the vocabulary words, a vocabulary practice game and more! This is a great resource to use. Writing: We have been building up to our writing and students will be completing many writing assignments. These include - Responses to Literature, Country Reports, Summary Writing, Persuasive and Journal Writing. Writing is a process: Plan, Write, Revise, Edit, Final Draft, Publish! It does take a lot of time and effort, but the kids are so proud of themselves when done. If you need to reach one of your student's teachers you will find that email is the best way. We do have voicemail, however it usually blinks at us two to three days later, and thus is not reliable. Please feel free to email us and we will respond as quickly as possible.
